Despite all the hysteria around the Internet concerning NASA’s recent mission to bomb the Moon, the “bomb” turned out to be a dud. There was no collosal explosion that some feared would crack the Moon in half. No sign was taken by cultures that revere the Moon that the end of the world and the universe was nigh. All the concern and worry was for naught as the mighty Moon siimply shrugged off the impact of the LCROSS lunar impactor as it has so many high-energy impacts in its 4 billion year history. The even did, however, provide a rare contemporary close-up look at the lunar surface as the craft approached, having split in two for the occasion with the leading half impacting first and the trailing half taking crucial scientific readings its last seconds of flight.
